This is generally regarded as Hong Kong’s most exclusive residential area, the top of the world literally (or at least the top of Hong Kong Island). Its detached individual homes and spacious low-rise apartments offer magnificent views of Victoria Harbour or cozy views of rolling fog, sometimes in the same hour. Popular with foreigners, The Peak is conveniently located near top international schools, first-rate hospitals, shopping and restaurants. It is a mere 15-20 minute drive away from Central, and is well served by buses, taxis and the Peak Tram. Housing: Properties are predominantly townhouses and low rise apartments with luxurious facilities and private outdoor areas. Prices are among the highest in Hong Kong, and vary according to the size and type of property. According to the Wall Street Journal, Severn Road topped 2011’s list of most expensive streets in the world, with properties here valued at a whopping HKD67,500 /sq.ft (approx.). Notable roads include Coombe Road, Barker Road, Guildford Road, Plantation Road, Mount Kellett Road, Mount Austin Road, Lugard Road, Severn Road and Gough Hill Road. Schools: Peak School is a primary school and is part of the English Schools Foundation (ESF). German Swiss International School is located along Guildford Road and currently follows the English curriculum. The International Baccalaureate programme is due to be implemented within the coming years. The Woodland Pre-school is an English speaking kindergarten located along Peak Road. Highlights: The Peak Galleria contains a variety of shops, including a supermarket and convenience store, along with a number of restaurants. There are a number of popular scenic trails around the Peak that extend towards Pokfulam Country Park and the south side. The views of the city, among other attractions such as the Peak Tower make it a popular weekend destination, and one that is on all ‘must-see’ tourist lists.
