Administratively part of Hong Kong Island’s Southern district, the southwestern portion consists of Aberdeen Town, Ap Lei Chau and Wong Chuk Hang – with these areas commonly grouped collectively under ‘Aberdeen’. It is served by Pokfulam Road and Nam Fung Road, with the Aberdeen Tunnel providing convenient access to the north side of the island. Previously a fishing village, it is now predominantly occupied by high-rise housing estates and industrial buildings. However the district is quickly changing due to the planned MTR access (est. 2015) and re-zoning of several sites, which are planned for conversion from industrial to commercial/hotel and residential use. Housing: Located throughout Aberdeen Town and Wong Chuk Hang are a great number of public housing estates and private residential developments. Businesses in Wong Chuk Hang are shifting from an industrial to a commercial base, which has altered housing needs. Ap Lei Chau consists of a small island connected to HK Island via a four-lane bridge. Estates are comprised of more traditional buildings but the area is also home to popular private blocks such as South Horizons. Developments inc.
