Originally conceptualized as a full-scale leisure resort in the mid 1970s, this pretty, secluded area on Lantau Island, near Hong Kong Disneyland, was transformed in the early 1980s into a private, self-contained residential development, known simply as “DB”. Spanning 6.5 square kilometers between Tai Pak Bay and Yi Pak Bay, it has developed into a low-density, child and pet friendly community that is predominantly favored by expats. Recreational facilities and nature trails abound, and a 24-hour ferry provides smooth sailing between DB and Central. Though private cars are not permitted, mini-buses operate within the enclave and larger buses run between DB and Tung Chung. Bus routes are also conveniently connected to the MTR network, with access to both Sunny Bay and Tung Chung stations, as well as the Hong Kong International Airport.
